Cloth Wipe Dispenser Pattern

Ok so this picture isn’t the best of this.  This is a pattern for a cloth diaper wipe dispenser.  It hangs, and dispenses the wipes from the bottom.  This is what I would rate a pretty easy pattern.  All you need to know is knitting in the round.  If you cannot knit in the round, simply cast on the stitches onto straight needles and work even… and then stitch together the sides.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Size 6 double pointed needles
less than 1 skein of yarn (medium weight is what I used)
2 1/2 feet of ribbon of your choice
No more than 6 inches of 1/8″ elastic (1/4″ can be used, but it is a little thick)
Sewing needle and all purpose thread matching the color of the yarn or elastic

Here’s the pattern:

Cast on 36 stitches, thread the ribbon through each loop you cast on.  Divide these stitch between 3 of your double pointed needles.

Knit the first inch in stockinette stitch.

Now here is where you can get creative.  If you are a beginner, just continue to use a knit stitch (it will turn out to be stockinette) for a total of 12 inches in length.  If you are more advanced, you can pick the stitch you’d like to use. I did a knit purl alternating to create a spiral pattern (which the picture doesn’t show very well).

Once you have 12 inches knitted, you will switch back to stockinette for the last inch.  Leave an 8 inch tail.

To finish, thread the elastic and yarn tail back through the stitches on the needles to create a circular opening of about an inch and a half.  Take the ends of the elastic and sew them over each other flat so the yarn can slide back over it (keeping in mind to keep the end opening small).  Slide yarn back over the elastic so it is evenly spaced.

Once done sewing, you can weave the yarn tail into your work.

Now you can stuff it with your cloth diaper wipes through the end with the ribbon.  Once done, pull the ribbon to close the opening and hang!

If this was as clear as mud…let me know and I will try and clarify what didn’t make sense!
