If you love for beauty…

Today begins my spring break basically.  I thought I would share a poem
I really love that has two different, beautiful settings in German Lieder.

Liebst du um Schönheit,              If you love for beauty,
O nicht mich liebe!                  O don't love me!
Liebe die Sonne,                     Love the sun,
Sie trägt ein gold'nes Haar!         She wears golden hair!

Liebst du um Jugend,                 If you love for youth,
O nicht mich liebe!                  O don't love me!
Liebe den Frühling,                  Love the Spring,
Der jung ist jedes Jahr!             It is young every year!

Liebst du um Schätze,                If you love for treasure,
O nicht mich liebe!                  O don't love me!
Liebe die Meerfrau,                  Love the mermaid,
Sie hat viel Perlen klar.            She has many clear perls.

Liebst du um Liebe,                  If you love for love,
O ja, mich liebe!                    O yes, love me!
Liebe mich immer,                    Love me always,
Dich lieb' ich immerdar.             I love you forever.

And yes, I translated this...so forgive me if it's not perfect.
I just really enjoy what this poem says.  It's true you should love for the person,
and not for any of these other things...because it can all change in time.
